More Information about Special Projects
Acorn Street Lighting Project
For several years, the Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood Association (HONNA) has funded the placement of historic style acorn street lamps along 1st Street North. The acorn lamp is named for the shape of the globe mounted at the top of the street lamp post.
So far, acorn street lamps have been installed on 1st St N between 22nd Ave N and 9th Ave N. The next phase will be on 1st St N between 22nd Ave N and 30th Ave N, the northern boundary of our neighborhood.
All funds for this project have come from member donations, money raised and allocated by the Holiday Home Tour and Spring Garden Stroll committees, and City of St Petersburg grants. The project also has depended on volunteer hours worked by residents of the Historic Old Northeast Neighborhood. ^Back to Donations
Sundial Sculpture Project
The proposed sundial project would commemorate prior sundials that were located on the north end of the water front park near Coffee Pot Bayou. You can read more about this project and see artist renderings of the proposed sculpture on the Sundial Project page. ^Back to Donations
Monument & Median Maintenance
HONNA has the responsibility to maintain and landscape the monuments and medians within our neighborhood. This responsibility includes painting, making sure that lights are operating, and landscaping and watering plants in those areas. ^Back to Donations
Newsletter
The award-winning HONNA Newsletter is published quarterly and is mailed out to residents of the Historic Old Northeast neighborhood. HONNA pays all costs of the newsletter. Though advertising revenue supports the newsletter, ad sales do not cover all entire costs of producing this interesting and informative publication. ^Back to Donations
Neighborhood-wide Yard Sale
Each Spring, HONNA organizes and promotes a neighborhood-wide yard sale. Those who participate in the yard sale are asked to consider contributing $10 or 10 percent of the proceeds of their sales to help defray the cost of advertising the sale. If there are excess proceeds, the remainder will be allocated towards neighborhood improvement efforts like maintaining our monuments and medians, installing acorn street lamps, etc. ^Back to Donations
General Fund Special Needs
The General Fund is used at the HONNA Board’s discretion for goals and projects that may not have been originally funded when the annual HONNA budget was approved. In the past, such projects have included partnering with the Mayor’s Beautification Program to plant trees in curb areas around the neighborhood. The General Fund has also enabled HONNA to support activities that enhance our neighborhood, like the the Florida Orchestra’s annual fall concert in the park. ^Back to Donations
